Townwatch

Dundalk Townwatch believes that first impressions make a huge difference. It is crucial that visitors, workers and shoppers feel that Dundalk Town Centre is a friendly place to socialise and a place of business. Dundalk Bids is committed to working with the An Garda Siochana and many other stakeholders to ensure that our Town Centre is a safe place to socialise, shop and business activity.

Two of our main objectives are focused upon the issue of anti-social behaviour and aggressive begging by organised gangs. While some people may be sympathetic to these groups, on the most part they are a nuisance and can be very intimidating. Visitors and shoppers alike should be allowed to shop in any area free from this display. The main streets reputation can be diminished both visually and socially, putting rate paying business at a disadvantage.

Townwatch Radio Network

The new Townwatch radio scheme is well underway. Launched in November 2016, we have now build an extensive network that is capable of stretching the length and breadth of the Town Centre and reaches as far as the Retail Park.

The Radio network has provided a real time information sharing platform that was previously serviced by emails and text messages. The system gives confidence and security to the business owner, as it is a direct line to the network of members, and help if needed can be reached much faster than before. It also alerts business to potential fraudsters on any given day, helping the radio holder to prepare and alert staff members of any misadventure.

We aim to build a secure network of businesses that are prepared and informed on how to deal with retail crime, minimising disruption and loss to their store.

An Garda Siochana have played a huge part in the 2016 and 2017 Townwatch programme, with improved daily street patrols and helping us move on beggars that are exploiting the retail space.

If you would like to find out more on how to become a Radio member, you can contact the BID company  on 04293 52842 or email manager@dundalkbids.com

We urge our Townwatch members to continue reporting any crimes or incidents of anti-social behavior and begging, that they may witness or experience in their business or area. This will ensure that as many perpetrators as possible are brought to justice and the area becomes a safer place for all.

We will continue to lobby on behalf of all our members business interest with regards to issues that may directly and negatively impact the safety and security of the area.
