The Old Dundalk Society is delighted to announce the first of the winter lecture series of the 2019 season, ‘Christian Brothers Schools (CBS) – 150 Years in Dundalk. This lecture will take place in the Louth County Museum, Jocelyn Street, Dundalk on Thursday 5th December 2019 commencing at 8.00 pm sharp. The lecture traces the history of the CBS schools in Dundalk and takes a closer look at some of the leaders of the order and the contribution they made to the education of the youth of Dundalk. The lecture will also explore the many changes that have taken place in Dundalk in the past 150 years. The lecture will be delivered by Éamonn Ó hUallacháin, a teacher who taught for 40 years in Dundalk, almost all of them in the CBS Secondary, now Coláiste Rís. His family have strong links with the School going back more than 100 years. Éamonn has published a number of books on historical matters, and has lectured both locally and nationally on these topics. He has broadcasted on almost 50 occasions on RTE’s Sunday Miscellany, frequently on topics of a historical nature. These broadcasts are also published in his book “A Month of Sundays”.
Attendees are advised to come early as there is limited capacity at the venue. An enjoyable evening is assured. Voluntary contributions at the door.
