The life
Peter Rice's engineering helped realise some of the twentieth century's most recognisable architecture, including the Sydney Opera House, Centre Pompidou and Louvre Pyramid. His achievement was collaborative: architects, engineers, craftspeople and materials worked together to turn ambitious ideas into physical structures. Arup's contemporary tribute emphasised his exploration of form and materials, while Dundalk remembers him through a birthplace plaque and an engineering student award. He received the Royal Gold Medal for architecture in 1992, a rare recognition for an engineer. His legacy makes invention part of the town's heritage.
A lasting legacy
A model of creative engineering, linking Dundalk to international design and inspiring new students locally.
