The place
The former Carroll cigarette factory is a landmark of Irish modernism whose disciplined geometry now frames a different kind of work. DkIT describes a late-1960s industrial building transformed into an academic centre for computing, mathematics, music and creative media. Recording studios, teaching spaces and collaborative facilities inhabit a structure first designed for manufacturing. The campus's online material includes a documentary in which Ronnie Tallon discusses the importance of the square in his architecture, giving visitors a direct way to explore the thinking behind the building.
What survives, and why it matters
Industrial architecture reused for education, with a continuing connection between structural order and creative possibility.
