The place
Within the public park survives a stone ice house, dated approximately 1780 by the architectural inventory. Its underground chambers and connecting passage were once part of the Dundalk House demesne, associated with the Earl of Clanbrassil. It is a small but revealing survival: estate life required practical structures as well as grand façades. The park allows visitors to read a quieter side of the eighteenth-century town, where traces of a private landscape remain within a place now used for public recreation.
What survives, and why it matters
An estate service building survives as a reminder of the landholding history behind part of the modern town.
