Steve Staunton's route to Liverpool began with youth and reserve football in Dundalk. Signed by Kenny Dalglish in 1986, he went on to win the 1989 FA Cup and the 1989–90 league title with Liverpool, and enjoyed a long career with Aston Villa and Ireland. The De La Salle pupil also belonged to Dundalk's Gaelic football story, winning a Louth senior championship with Clan na Gael in 1985. Born in Drogheda and raised in Dundalk, his career connects the town's different sporting traditions rather than belonging to just one code.

A lasting connection.

A career linking Dundalk's youth football and Gaelic games to major clubs and the international stage.
