The place
The County Museum occupies a restored industrial building within the Carroll Centre. The architecture itself is part of the exhibition's wider setting: a substantial remnant of Dundalk's distilling past now houses collections about the people and material culture of Louth. Its displays range from early settlement to modern life, making it a useful first stop before exploring the town's surviving sites. A digital timeline can introduce the stories, but original objects, changing exhibitions and informed local interpretation allow visitors to look again and ask better questions.
What survives, and why it matters
A manufacturing building given a new role as a place to conserve and investigate local memory.
