A local connection to the production

DkIT’s account of Chasing Millions describes an Ireland–Australia production filmed in Dublin and Dundalk, with local students, graduates and lecturers involved along the way. A Dundalk Omniplex premiere preceded the film’s 9 October release.

The collaboration began with a 2024 visit to the institute by producer Jane Doolan and director Stephen Burke. DkIT says contact with Town Centre Commercial Manager Martin McElligott helped open up Dundalk filming locations. Graduate Cathal Mallon worked on locations through a placement, while James Clegg also worked on the 2025 shoot.

Lecturer Sarah McCann hosted the post-screening conversation with members of the film team. Together, those details show the work behind a premiere: education, local introductions and practical production experience.

A wider film community

The premiere followed the seventh Louth International Film Festival, held from 25 to 27 September. DkIT’s festival report describes three days of screenings, conversations and networking, supported by a volunteer-led team and partners across the town.

The programme included a showcase of 13 DkIT productions and Sinéad Murphy’s Sludge at An Táin. The institute reported an audience of more than 250 for that local filmmaker’s screening. These are separate events, but together they offer a view of Dundalk’s film community at work.

Our perspective & suggestions

Our suggestion: start with the activity. Choose a film, a festival screening or a conversation with a filmmaker, then build an evening around it. Our things-to-do page groups cinema providers together so you can compare what is showing.

The production story is also a reminder to local businesses that a town can contribute to creative work in several ways. The published report describes one collaboration; future filming enquiries should go through the appropriate organiser rather than assuming the same locations remain available.
