From derelict building to a proposed new use
Louth County Council has published plans for the Old Pumping Station at Meadow Grove under a proposal titled Merryweather Museum. The notice describes bringing the derelict building into use as a display building and museum.
Proposed works include replacing the roof, adding perimeter glazing and access doors, internal alterations, lighting and signage. Paths, paving, landscaping, a commemorative plaque and a sewer connection also form part of the notice.

An idea under consideration
The proposal is dated 15 September 2026, with observations due by 5pm on 27 October. The published notice does not establish an opening date or a confirmed programme of exhibits.
For that reason, it belongs in news about the town’s possible future, rather than in a list of attractions that visitors can already enter.

Look beyond the familiar landmark
Our perspective & suggestionsOur view: industrial and service buildings can be easy to overlook. A proposal to reuse one gives the town a reason to examine its less familiar structures and think about what should be preserved, adapted or explained.
Anyone interested in this project should begin with the formal drawings and notice. The Meadow Grove proposal is wider-town news; this article makes no claim about the property’s BID status.
