Homes beneath the modern town
The Bronze Age appears in Dundalk through everyday traces as well as spectacular objects. Excavations at Marshes Upper, on the Dundalk Institute of Technology development, uncovered an unenclosed settlement and cremation burials. The excavator dated the settlement to around 1500 BC, while pottery and other features revealed activity from more than one period. The discovery brings prehistoric households into a place now associated with education, sport and work.↗1
Modern development has revealed evidence of households and burial practices around Dundalk, beyond the best-known stone monuments.
